・英語で、お稽古を受けていただける書道教室です。

・少人数で、書道の基礎から学んでいただけますので、書道初心者の方や、英語力に自信がない、という方にも安心して学んでいただけます。

・お稽古中は基本的に英語でコミュニケーションしますが、状況に応じて、日本語での説明も加えます。

・椅子席にしておりますので、足のしびれも気にせずお書きいただけます。

・お道具もすべてお教室で準備しておりますので、手ぶらでお越しいただけます。

・東横線都立大学駅から徒歩3分。書道教室和翠塾の隣の、道路沿いの建物です。

 第1週、2週、3週の日曜日。10:00-12:00

連休がある月など、イレギュラーな月もございます。カレンダーをご参照ください。

・二文字、四文字、五文字の楷書を中心に、レベルに合わせて学んでいただきます。

・お手本の言葉や、その言葉に関連する用語なども、英語で説明していきます。

例)　お手本が「春夏秋冬」の場合 = Four seasons. 季節や季節行事に関する英単語を使った話をします。

入会について

1. 英語力はどのくらいのレベルが必要ですか？

挨拶、数字、時間、簡単な自己紹介など、中学校1年生で勉強するレベルの知識をお持ちですと良いでしょう。お稽古は、基本は英語で進めますが、必要に応じて日本語を使用していただけます。

2. 書道は初めてでも大丈夫ですか?

全く問題ありません。お道具の使い方から始めますので、ご安心ください。

3. 体験レッスンは受けずに入会できますか?

体験レッスンは、お道具の使い方等の基本を学んでいただくと同時に、英語レベルのチェックを行う目的もありますので、皆様にお受けいただきます。ご入会いただいた場合には、体験レッスン料金は、入会金の一部とさせていただきます。

お稽古について

 1. お稽古の時間は決まっていますか?

はい、決まっています。基本は、第2，3, 4週の日曜日の10:00-12:00ですが、連休やお盆期間・年末年始などは、別の週に変更なる場合があります。スケジュールについては、ホームページをご確認ください。

2. 昇段級制度はありますか?

昇段級制度はありません。

3. 自分の道具を使っても良いですか?

はい、問題ありません。毎回お持ちいただくことになりますが、ご自身のお好きなお道具をお使いください。

4. 追加で料金が発生することはありますか?

 通常のお稽古では、チケット代以外の料金は発生しません。

Why “Shodo” ?

“Letters” are everywhere in our ordinary life. “Sho” is the art which expresses those letters beautifully. “Shodo” is the culture to put the soul and spirit into those “Sho”, striving to master it. Once you learn the basic, you can enjoy “Shodo” in your own way. The moment to calm yourself down and focus on each letter will clear your mind and your mind will be nourished. At children’s emotional developing stage, having the opportunity to be exposed to “Sho” will lead them to develop discriminating tastes and to know that this world is full of beautiful things. This experience would help them to have an enriched life.

Why “in English” ?

By doing the lesson in English, you are expected to “Use English as a communication tool” but to “Learn English as a language”. While practicing, you can ask questions and receive answers and guidance in English. You will find you are able to communicate in English with your pronunciation and simple phrases. You will become familiar with communication in English. Take it easy and say a word in English and it will lead to a conversation. If you have anything you would like to talk about or any word you don’t understand just let Hana know. Let’s enjoy hassle free “Shodo” in English and build up your confidence in English communication to go further to connect to the world. We are looking forward to seeing you in the class !

・All the lessons will be conducted in English but Japanese explanation can be added depending on the needs and situations.

・We offer small sized classes with maximum 6 persons to teach you “Shodo” from the basic level. So if you are a beginner at “Shodo” or beginner at English conversation, no worry.

・The teacher Hana is Japanese and has worked abroad and also in some global companies for years. She is capable to communicate both in English and Japanese.

・The class room is with desks and chairs.

・We provide all the necessary tools at our school so you don’ need to carry anything to the class.

・The school is a 3-minute walk from Toritsu Daigaku Station (Tokyu Toyoko line).

Schedule：10:00-12:00 on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday of every month.

＊Exception : The month with three-day weekend. Please refer to the calendar.

・We mainly teach Kaisho (Printed, Standard style) in Hiragana and Kanji (Chinese character) starting from 1 character to six characters on a sheet according to the level of the student.

・We explain the word of Otehon (model) in English and talk about it as the topic of the day. 

ex) Otehon is “春夏秋冬“ = Four seasons. We talk about seasons, seasonal events and so on to gain vocabularies and expressions related to seasons in English.

・The trial lesson is a private lesson for 60mins including a briefing on the courses.

・The fee is JPY 2,000 (incl. tax).

Course

1. What level of English is required to attend the lesson ?

 It would be good if the student has basic knowledge of junior high school level. Lessons will be conducted in English, however, Japanese can be used, if needed.

2. Can I join the class even though I have no experience of “Shodo” ?

 Yes, beginners are welcome. We will teach you from the basic.

3. Can I sign up for the class without having the trial lesson ?

We would like you to learn some basic such as how to use the tools and we can see where you are in terms of English level through the trial lesson as well. So we would like everyone to have the trial lesson. The trial lesson fee will be a part your enrollment fee if you signed up for the course.

Lesson

1. Is the lesson schedule fixed ?

Yes, it is fixed. It is 10:00-12:00 of the second, third and fourth Sunday of every month. The schedule would be changed on the months with three-day weekend. Please refer to the attached calendar.

2. Do you have any ranking system (Kyu, Dan) ?

 No, we don’t have a ranking system in “Shodo in English”. 

3. Can I use my own tools ?

Yes, you can use your own tools. Please bring your own tools every time.

4. Is there any extra fee for the lesson besides the monthly fee ?

No, there will be no extra fee for the regular lesson besides the monthly fee.
